The safety measures adopted were of no use: the fury of the abyss was unleashed in an angry and uncontrollable eruption.
The engulfed platform caught fire - burning together with the lives of three Agip technicians: Pietro Peri, Arturo Biagini and Bernardo Gervasoni - and sank into the abyss. After an initial bewilderment, its underwater metamorphosis begins in silence, it offers itself boldly and becomes an unexpected home to unexpected forms of life: hermit crabs, scorpion fish, lobsters, crabs, oysters take possession of the wreck
From 1965 to today, the sunken methane platform has thus been reborn, transforming itself into an underwater oasis, declared a Site of Community Importance in 1995, which fascinates its visitors with the charm of its luxuriant and shy life.
A wonder is born from a catastrophe, sealing the dichotomy between past and present, making the pact of yesterday and today.
In 2008, during a friendly chat with Tonino Guerra, Gianluca Grilli learns about the history of the Paguro Platform. Curiosity is intertwined with a passion for food and wine, and Gianluca begins a path of research and enological innovation regarding the relationship over time between brackish water and wine.
The roots of this relationship lie deep in history, since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Hence the first winery to practice underwater refinement.
With the collaboration of a team of divers, Gianluca sank the cases of wine from Tenuta Del Paguro into the reef of the wreck of the Paguro platform, at a depth of 30 metres.
Years of research, which still continues, lead to a better knowledge of the method and scientific bases that give the wine of Tenuta Del Paguro its unique and unmistakable characteristics: the absence of UV rays, the constant temperature, the water pressure salty, the harmonious massage of sea currents.
